Rotorwash International Webmaster's Bio

My name is Daryl Collins and I am a Search and Rescue pilot with the Canadian Forces.  I joined the military in 1989 (ROTP). I spent the first three years of my helicopter life as a CH-146 Griffon pilot stationed in Goose Bay, Labrador.  In the summer of 1998, I began flying the H-46 Labrador helicopter stationed in Greenwood, Nova Scotia.  In July 2002, I was posted to Central Flying School in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  In that job, I was responsible for the development and implementation a new human factors course aimed at aircrew (CRM), maintenance personnel (HPIM), and air traffic controllers (TRM). As of the summer of 2006 I have returned to flying SAR, posted to 103 Rescue Squadron in Gander, NFLD. It's the place to be if you want to do SAR!!! I have accumulated about 2300 hours so far (hours are at a premium) and I also currently hold my civilian ATPL-H license and instrument rating.

Since getting my Wings, I have become extremely interested in Flight Safety, Crew Resource Management, and Human Factors.  In particular, I have done a considerable amount of work and research in the field of CRM.  I am a Canadian Forces qualified CRM facilitator and also completed the FlightSafety International CRM Facilitator training course held in Houston, Texas.  In addition to this formal facilitator training, I have attended the following courses/symposiums (as a participant): Air Canada CRM Course, Transport Canada CRM Course, Transport Canada Pilot Decision Making Course, 9th and 10th Annual Symposium on Aviation Psychology (Ohio State University).  Using the knowledge I have gained during the past several years, I developed an initial one-day CRM course and a fifth generation half-day re-current CRM course.  During the past couple of years, I have used these courses to train more than 500 aircrew.  In early 2002, I flew to Dubai, UAE to conduct initial CRM and facilitator training for the pilots at Aerogulf Helicopter Services and the Dubai Police Airwing.  Once I am settled in Winnipeg this summer, I plan on starting a Masters in Aeronautical Science program (specializing in Human Factors and System Safety) to further my own education.

If you are looking for assistance in your organization, please feel free to drop me a line and be sure to check out my Flight Safety/CRM page for more information.

This website would not be possible without the dedicated support and patience of my wife.  She always puts up with my ideas no matter how crazy they seem to be at the time.
